          " Safety and Risk"

   On February 3rd, Miss Manning's and Ms Martin's classes went on a field trip to the Cotuit Center for the Arts.The theme of the exhibit was "Opposites Attract."

   After we were split into two groups, each group went in opposite ways. The first group to view  the exhibits was Ms Martin's group. "We began our tour on the first floor, which was very colorful,"Rhiannon remembered.The first creation that we saw was a collage called "Safety and Risk." It was made out of  porcupine quills and soft peacock feathers.It was the only exhibit you could touch.

   Meanwhile, Miss Manning's group was making a craft in the Art Barn (a separate building). We were using the paper cutting technique, a technique used to make outstanding pieces of artwork.It goes like this: I took a piece of paper, one side white and the other side pink, and traced on the white side. Then, I cut it out and glued it to make an opposite design.

   At the museum,the tour group was going up the stairs.They were greeted by a large, colorful , sculpture called "Something Fishy." There were four fish. "It really popped out at you," Rhiannon told the guide,"Massive too." They moved on to a art piece called "Circus Illusion." The creator of the piece came over to them and explained how she made it. "It took a very long time and lots of delicate folding to make this piece," she said.      

     When they were ready to move on, they saw a painting by fellow classmate Jillian Burdge's mother. "It was an asparagus and a heart. The heart represented her mom and the asparagus represented her dad,"classmate Erin said. Then they came along a painting called "Laughing Dogs 2" The painting is living up to its name.

Next they stopped at a sculpture called "A little bit of everything." It was beautiful. The name confused our teacher, Miss.Manning. "When we said we liked "A little bit of everything" (the sculpture), our teacher said to try to pick one painting we liked best." Stella told Rhiannon.

The last painting we saw was a painting of a little girl feeding a cracker to a giraffe."I saw the reason it was hanging in this exhibit instantly." Rhiannon said "Wild animals and humans are opposite, but the giraffe was attracted to the young girl."

Soon though, it was time to leave. "The field trip overall was very enjoyable and some of the vibrant colors were really pleasing to the eye," Rhiannon described. "I really enjoy the excitement and inspiration our field trip brings to students each year,'' Mrs. Richards, our art teacher, said about the field trip.

Moon Bears

They are called Moon Bears because of the crescent moon on their chest. Moon Bears have their own vocabulary they make clucking sounds and huffing sounds for warning other bears. They can climb trees easily. They make their dens in caves and can also sleep in trees. Each Moon Bear weighs about one hundred ten pounds. These bears are usually 4-6 feet tall. Moon Bears live in China, Russia, and North Korea. Some of the bears body parts are sold in China for 20 thousand dollars. Asian Black Bear is another name for the Moon Bear. Moon Bears can be very violent against humans, because  humans have been trapping and killing Moon Bears for a special kind of medicine. One last fact about the Moon Bear is its also called the White-Chested Bear. We got this information from Wikipedia.

Helping Hearts and Hands

“Home is Where the Heart is…”

     On December 3^rd, 2014 our teacher, Miss Manning and her family had a fire in their home. So we decided to start the Manning family fund, called “Home is Where the Heart is.”

Luckily, the family was working that day, and they didn’t have any pets, so no one got hurt. The Mashpee community was very helpful to the Manning family. Restaurants in Mashpee let them eat there for free and the firemen who were camping at the Mashpee rotary had a special donations day for the Mannings.

“I feel so lucky to be in a place like Mashpee where everyone wants to help and support with kindness,” said Miss Manning.  

Our school wrote tons of heartwarming messages to let them know how much we cared. Teachers at the Quashnet School offered them a place to stay. Stella Stecei, Annika Lakatos, Gabriela Santos, and Kailyn Westgate had a donations box at the 3^rd through 6^th grade lunches and at the office. With all the donations, we collected $1,174.66.

 “I felt extremely appreciative of everyone in town reaching out through their donations and well wishes,” Miss Manning said. “I felt really proud of the girls, because it was generous. I also felt so grateful to have such kind and caring students helping.”

    On December 18^th 2014, our school wrapped up the Manning family fund.

“Thank you Mashpee community for all the donations and working together hand in hand. We’re delighted that the Mannings’ hearts are filled with love and gratitude,” the four girls said.

“We were very glad to see the Mannings back and smiling everyday,” said the girls. When the four girls told the Mannings how much money they raised, their faces lit up with enough energy to light a whole room.

Miss Manning’s whole class exclaimed, “We were proud to return the favor of helping Miss Manning. Every day, she is by our side, caring and helping to educate us!!!”

 The class will never forget the day they learned how special it felt to help someone in need.

Short Story: Fantasy

                     The Lonely Panther
   "Snow" the panther ran to the ice like a cheetah.  He was hoping his friends would play a game of Panther Ball. 
   He shouted out, "Who wants to play a game of Panther Ball?" 
   Instead of saying yes, his friends stared at him acting confused. Snow walked home feeling gloomy, he thought his friends liked to play Panther Ball. Instead of trying again, he stayed home working on chores. 
   He thought, "Besides it is my birthday, shouldn't my friends at least play with me? I don't even mind what game we should play, I just want to play." 
   Snow finally got his confidence back and tried again. This time his friend surprised him with a birthday party. He knew that this would be the best day ever.

Short Story #2

                          "The Big Game"

     "Hi Mr and Mrs.Smiley!" Katie exclaimed. Finally she had gotten used to them. Mrs.Smiley looked just like Mr.Smiley, but she had pink hair in the shape of a pony tail and blue rubber skin.      Katie walked into the kitchen and saw the two toys eating... Dog Food? 
"What the...'' shouted Katie. "You two are weird!" Mr and Mrs. Smiley had adopted a small dog yesterday, but they didn't have to eat his dog food. The dog was orange with yellow spots, purple floppy ears , and black and yellow eyes. Just so you know, Katie, Mr.Smiley, Mrs.Smiley, and Salty their dog, were big Bruins fans. Tonight is the Stanley Cup Finals! Everyone was very excited. Well, here is what happened... Katie was putting together some snacks for the game when you guessed it, Mr.Smiley appeared. Winter Wonderland:Opinion Writing

Crunch! Crunch! Crunch! I love this time of year, it's like a winter wonderland . Everything is white and clear, white little crystals fall from the sky.

                           Winter isn't so bad

Brrr! Winter is cold! Some people might think winter is too cold!Think of it ... some people don't have a winter as beautiful as this. Some people haven't even seen snow! So we are very lucky that we don't have hot weather year around. .

                            I love winter

Catch em! Catch em! I adore collecting snowflakes on my jacket. Winter is the funnest season of the year. You may build snowmen , snow angels, snow forts , catch snowflakes , build igloos, and ... more! I would prefer winter more than any other season in the year!

                            Christmas

Ho! Ho! Ho! Another fun thing is Christmas for those who celebrate . Some people don't know the true meaning of Christmas and think it is just about presents, but it's not. Christmas is about being with your family and friends!
